I'm of the belief that it's allowed in a conversational tone. I'm always conscious I'm making the mistake but sometimes "Jim and I" sounds too rigid. "Get drinks for Jim and I," is just unforgivable though. It's like trying to add a linguistic flourish where none belongs.
